Wilhite Law Firm Offers Easy-to-Use BAC Calculator Tool

COLORADO SPRINGS – The Wilhite Law Firm today announced the launch of its new online blood alcohol concentration (BAC) calculator tool for residents of Colorado Springs and communities throughout Colorado. The law firm hopes the easy-to-use tool will help to increase public awareness of the effects of alcohol on an individual’s ability to drive safely and, in turn, will help to prevent drunk driving accidents.

“We designed it to help adults of legal drinking age in Colorado to understand the factors that affect their BAC,” Wilhite said. “It is up to individuals to make responsible decisions about drinking alcohol and to determine whether and when it is safe to drive. Of course, we believe that the only safe BAC is 0.00%.”

An individual’s BAC indicates the grams of alcohol per 100 milliliters (mL) of blood in a person’s body. For instance, a BAC of 0.08% indicates that a person has 0.08 grams or more of alcohol per 100mL of blood.

To use the BAC Calculator Tool, an individual simply needs to type in basic information such as weight, gender, the amount of alcohol (beer, wine or liquor) consumed and the time since consumption.

As the law firm notes, in Colorado, as in every state, drivers are deemed to be legally impaired if they have a BAC of 0.08%. For commercial drivers, the legal limit is 0.04%. Also, most states have “zero tolerance” laws that prohibit drivers under the legal drinking age of 21 to have any amount of alcohol in their blood.

While those are the legal limits, the reality is that consuming any amount of alcohol can have an impact on an individual’s mental and physical faculties. The law firm provides a chart which explains the effects of alcohol consumption. Additionally, many other factors can influence the effect of alcohol on an individual, including whether a person has consumed prescription, over-the-counter or illegal drugs.

“Mixing any drug with alcohol can be dangerous to you and to others,” Wilhite said.

The Wilhite Law Firm engages in many other efforts to prevent drunk driving accidents in Colorado, including its Free Cab Ride Program in Denver and Colorado Springs. The program, now in its 13th year, provides up to $35 in reimbursement for one-way cab or rideshare rides home during holidays throughout the year. Most recently, the firm offered the program on St. Patrick’s Day.
