Blind-Spot Truck Accidents in Arvada

Large trucks have blind spots where drivers cannot see nearby vehicles. If you enter one of these zones at the wrong moment, a routine drive can quickly turn into a serious wreck. A collision with a commercial truck can leave you with catastrophic injuries even if you did nothing wrong. After a crash, a truck accident lawyer from The Wilhite Law Firm can act promptly to protect your rights.

Blind-spot truck accidents in Arvada are rarely minor. When a trucker changes lanes without seeing a nearby car, the truck can sideswipe the smaller vehicle, force it into a barrier, or push it beneath the trailer. Because of the size and weight difference, people inside the car can experience severe force. These crashes can cause traumatic brain injuries, spinal damage, and broken bones that require months of treatment and ongoing care.

Where Are a Truck’s Blind Spots?

Semi-trucks have blind spots so large that the trucking industry calls them no-zones. These areas can conceal an entire car from the driver’s view, leaving them unable to see you.

A truck has four major no-zones:

• Directly in front, where the high cab blocks the view of the road ahead
• Directly behind the trailer, extending back many car lengths
• Along the left side, below the driver’s window
• Along the right side, which is the largest and most dangerous

In Arvada, most crashes involving blind spots happen when a trucker changes lanes on I-70 or swings wide for a right turn onto a street such as Ward Road. A truck weighing 80,000 pounds can make such a maneuver especially dangerous.

Who Is Responsible for a Blind-Spot Truck Crash?

Responsibility can extend beyond the trucker. Federal law requires trucking companies to train drivers on blind-spot safety, maintain working mirrors, and, on many newer trucks, install blind-spot detection systems. If the company skipped proper training or maintenance to save money, it can share responsibility for the crash.

Identifying every liable party can be challenging. After a blind-spot crash in Arvada, we can obtain the truck’s black box data, the driver’s logs, and the company’s maintenance records before that evidence disappears. Colorado is an at-fault state, and the carrier’s insurer will try to shift blame to you. We will challenge those efforts and work to protect your claim.

Deadlines and the Importance of Acting Quickly

State law gives you three years from the date of a truck crash to file a claim under Colorado Revised Statutes § 13-80-101. That can sound like plenty of time, but waiting can make evidence harder to preserve. Skid marks fade, dashcam footage can disappear, and a truck’s electronic data can become unavailable within weeks.

The insurance company knows this, and its investigators can begin working on your case within hours of the crash. You deserve a team acting just as quickly to protect your rights. After you contact us, we will start preserving evidence immediately to protect proof of your Arvada truck collision involving a blind spot.
